CLIENT: Statewide, Georgia

Vaughn & Melton was selected by Georgia Power Company to provide surveying, civil engineering, and /or CADD drafting services on an on-call basis for a period of 3 years.

Our first project assignment through this contract was to provide a flood study for a future Sub Station along Little River, near Covington, Georgia.  The watershed for this site was almost 7 square miles, including a large portion of the City of Social Circle.

Our second project involved the design of another proposed Sub Station in Eton, Georgia which lies in

Murray County on Old Federal Road. First, V&M was asked to perform a topographic and boundary survey on the 11-acre tract. Flood Elevation was identified from use of the contours and the FEMA FIRM maps. Upon completion of field surveys, a flood study of this area of an almost 20 square mile watershed was conducted.

Site concept plans of alternate locations for the substation have also been developed by V&M’s civil engineers. Once a general location was selected, additional concepts with grading plans were prepared to fine-tune the final location, both horizontally and vertically. Full civil site plans of the Sub Station, including Erosion & Sedimentation Control Plans, were then developed. Field inspections of the construction of the substation including inspection of the Erosion Control devices were performed by V&M as well.
