PROJECT: INTERSTATE AND STATE ROUTE 341 (EXIT 4) INTERCHANGE
CLIENT: Tennessee Department of Transportation
Vaughn & Melton worked with the Tennessee Department of Transportation by performing design services for the interchange and the upgrade of SR 341 to four traffic lanes with a continuous turn lane. The design included the replacement of two existing bridges with two new 3-lane bridges. The grade of the interstate was elevated approximately 3-feet while maintaining the interstate traffic at the exit.
The work included construction of new concrete ramps and traffic signals. The 0.896 miles of SR 341 was upgraded with improved profile grades, drainage, and alignment.
Special consideration was given to maintenance of traffic, erosion protection and sediment control and especially the phasing of traffic and construction operations on the ramps and interstate during construction. The project cost was approximately $12,000,000. This successful project demonstrates Vaughn & Melton’s experience in interstate roadway design, traffic management, and preparing plans to TDOT standards.
